Yay!  Just got my order from Lazy S’s Farm Nursery of various perennials. I’ve ordered from this company before, and they have a fantastic selection of some local and hard to find plants.  I tried to shy away from cultivar hybrids, and tried to get as much natives as possible for the shade and part sun beds in front of the house.  Sure, it’s a bit of a pain mail ordering plants because you can’t check them before, but short of digging things out of the woods, i wouldn’t know where to get trilliums or other unique native flowers.

Here’s a before and after…

I know, you can’t see much now (the 3 trilliums are still dormant), but give it a month or two and it will fill out nicely.  Both beds are mostly shade, and now have ferns, trilliums, columbines, jack in the pulpit, and 10 other unique flowers and shrubs.

I had to do a LOT of digging-in sand, coir and leaf mulch to break up some of the clay in the front, and i’ll keep top dressing with mulch to help lightening things up a bit over the years.

Double yay!!!!  As i was writing this, i hear a knock at the door…and the blueberries just showed up too!  Ordered those (as well as a black currant) from Edible Landscaping Online .  I’ve got my work cut out for me today!
